From the Kanbun to Genroku period, Arita produced various types of carved works, many of which were exported to Europe. Among them, those with only overglaze enameling on a milky white base were considered to be made by Kakiemon, and others were considered to be general Ko-Imari, but in recent years such a classification is no longer considered appropriate. This figurine of a parrot was also made by order from the Netherlands, and it is said that parrots were much favored in Europe at that time. The stylized expression of the parrot is gorgeous and is representative of this type of statue.
