Excavated in Niigata
6th century
Height 18.3cm, Mouth diameter 17.0cm, Body diameter 10.0cm
This rather small wide-mouthed jar is thought to have been made in the early 6th century, as the neck of the mouth is much longer than the size of the body. It is a very thin and exquisite piece, showing excellent wheel throwing technique. The blackened surface is covered with a dark green natural glaze, showing an excellent workmanship. The upper and lower sides of the neck have two protruding strips, which are filled with a fine comb-like wavy pattern.
