This is a typical high pedestal bowl with a finely wreath-shaped side, the inside of which is divided into eight sections and painted with ground patterns such as aoigaiha, cloisonne enamel, and amishiro patterns. A tree with red flowers is shown in the wide circular area, and a wild a-ha-ha bird is placed in the tree. The color tone is glossy, but the painting has a somewhat elegant flavor. The sides of the high pedestal are decorated with blue ocean waves, a four-way woven tasuki, and a small pattern of bamboo leaves in color, while the back is decorated with an unrestrained peony arabesque in black lines and overlaid with dark blue. This is one of the best examples of Ko-Kutani style bowls, and there is one other piece of almost the same shape that has been handed down, which also shows a Yamaki-rai design.
