Ninami Michihachi established the Itto-do pottery style at the residence of Kakukura Gennai in Kyoto’s Saga district during the Tempo era, and this work is a fine example of the Itto-do style. This is another Ninsai-style gourd-shaped water jar that captures the essence of the original work. The iron glaze and milky white glaze are applied to alternate sides, and the glaze melts smoothly. The gourd-shaped seal of the Ippondo ware is stamped on the left side of the flat base.
