This is a famous soba bowl known as the “residual moon,” with a persimmon-colored base and a bluish fire glaze. Matsudaira Fumai compared it to the mountain ash flowers reflected in water and named it ‘Tamagawa’ after the poem by Shunsei: “Gathering together, the mountain ash flowers still shed their dew on the well’s Tamagawa.” The apricot-colored base with a hint of blue in the glaze adds a particularly poignant touch, making this tea bowl all the more charming. The body has well-defined wheel marks, giving it a sleek appearance, while the wide tea-holding area highlights the characteristics of soba.
There are six eyes, with five additional marks on the base, and the swirls inside the high foot are also remarkable. The single fire mark at the rim is also exquisite, adding to the overall design.
