This piece is famous for its brushstroke pattern and is renowned in the Hirase family. Its beautiful, pearl-like texture inspired Hirase Ryuko to name it “Goufu,” which means “pearl.” The base clay is a dark brown, sticky clay, and except for the foot, the entire surface is covered with a thick layer of pure white slip applied with a brush. The contrast between black and white is sharp and vivid, giving it a crisp, lively appearance. The rim features five eyes, with rainwater drainage patterns forming a scenic design. The base features a well-defined helmet-shaped rim. The overall design is crisp and lively, with vigorous brushstrokes, making it one of the finest examples of brushstroke-patterned ware. It is likely of the same quality and origin as the “Upper-grade powder-coated ware.
