I have never drunk tea from this tea bowl, but I have had the opportunity to hold it many times. This is also wonderful. It is bold, has a good feel to the touch, and gives a sense of power.
The rim is distorted into a rectangle, but rather than being a drawback, it adds to its charm. The white glaze and the pleasant crimson color of the iron pigment give it an indescribable appeal.
Although it is a beautiful tea bowl, it does not feel feminine but rather masculine.
The landscape pattern of the cast design is interpreted as “Kamiji Mountain,” and the auspicious and sacred inscription “Asahikage” is added, which is an interesting touch.
“The morning shadow of the divine path mountain, may it never be clouded over your reign.”
There is a poem inscribed on it.
Whether the artist intended to depict the landscape pattern is unclear.
