This food box features square corners, and the footring is also carved into a square shape. On the front of the high lid, five Chinese boys are depicted at play, while the lid and the four sides of the body are intricately decorated with blue-and-white designs of dragons and floral patterns; the white porcelain body has a slight yellowish tint.
A large double-circular band encircles the interior of the footring; at its center, within a rectangular frame, is a blue-and-white inscription reading “Made in Eiraku, on an auspicious day in midwinter of the fifth year of Tenpō in this country.” To the right of the inscription is the “Kawabami ‘Shiryū’” seal. The lid of the box bears the inscription “Blue-and-white leaf-decorated food basket made by Zen’gorō.” It is believed to be a reproduction of blue-and-white porcelain from the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty.
