Height: 5.0 cm; Mouth diameter: 7.0–7.4 cm; Base diameter: 3.1 cm
This cup resembles a smaller version of a Ninshō-style tea bowl. The lid of the accompanying box is inscribed with “Ninshō-style Sake Cup” on the front and “Made in Konan by Hozen” on the back. As it is a Konan-yaki piece from a kiln established near Mii-dera Temple in Ōtsu in the fourth year of the Kaei era (1851), it can be considered one of Hozen’s very last works. The craftsmanship is truly exquisite, and the glaze has a soft, smooth texture. A small “Eiraku” seal is stamped on the lower rim; the seal surface is unglazed. Traces of swirling carvings remain on the unglazed foot rim.
