This elegant cup, modeled after the style of early Somenuki ware, features a stylized single plum blossom and a small bird—likely a nightingale—perched on the rim. The rim is shaped into a twelve-petaled floral ring, and a five-petaled plum blossom is painted on the interior. The foot is small, compact, and slightly tall, with a shallow indentation inside. A small “Eiraku” seal is stamped on the body, and the lid of the accompanying box bears the inscription “Somenuki Kachō Shu-in” (Underglaze-painted Flowers and Birds Sake Cup), while the underside of the lid is inscribed with “In: Hozen-zō” (Seal: Hozen-zō). I have also seen a cup stand made specifically to accompany this cup.
