This tea bowl features a gentle, rounded form from the rim to the foot.
However, Dōnyū’s distinctive touch is clearly evident throughout. The bowl is thin-walled overall, with the rim drawn inward, the body gently swelling, and the rounded form from the foot rim to the waist being truly characteristic of Dōnyū. The foot is slightly high, the base is wide, and there is no swirl-shaped rim inside the foot. The interior is also free of a tea pool and is crafted to be wide and generous. The glaze applied over the entire piece blends well into a jet-black hue, with a thick, uniform glaze covering the entire surface from the rim to the body. There are large traces of glaze adhesion on the foot rim, and the glaze marks are indistinct. On the underside of the box lid, Takusai has inscribed: “Made by Nonkou, Black Tea Bowl, Kinoshita (signature).”
It has long been renowned among a select group of connoisseurs.
