Red Tea Bowl, Inscription: “Hotei” This tea bowl shares the same rounded, full-bodied form as the ‘Hotei’ piece and is roughly shaped throughout. A distinctive feature is the fine traces of carving marks remaining on both the interior and exterior.
The wide interior features a tea pool, the rim of the foot is deeply carved, and the interior of the foot is also deep, with a left-facing “Raku” seal stamped in the center. Rather than a typical red Raku tea bowl, this piece is closer to white, featuring a glaze with a slight reddish tint. The glaze covers the entire surface, leaving only the foot and the rim of the foot exposed. Among the tea bowls attributed to Dōraku, this is the most outstanding example. It comes with a box inscription by Sokuchū-sai and Tantan-sai.
