This tea bowl is attributed to Dōraku, who is said to be the younger brother of Dōnyū. It is crafted with a slightly thick body and a richly rounded form. While it bears some resemblance to the works of Kōetsu and Dōnyū, the distinctive style evident here is quite different. The rim features gentle undulations, and the body is richly rounded from the middle to the base. The foot is low, and the base is flat. Fine traces of trimming remain on the body, and a yellow glaze covers the entire surface from the lower section to the foot, though it appears to be a thin application of ochre. However, the area from the rim to the interior has fired to a reddish hue. Inside the footring is stamped with a left-facing “Raku” seal, commonly known as the “Dōraku” mark, and the underside of the inner box lid bears the inscription: “Hotei Red Tea Bowl, Dōraku-style, Sōshū (signature).”
