This is a modest, flat tea bowl with a gentle form. The body is rounded from the waist to the foot, and the interior is also shaped in a rounded manner. The foot is slightly large, and a swirl-shaped kabuto-kin (helmet cloth) pattern is carved into the interior of the foot. An “Inkyo” seal is stamped on the side of the foot, and Rokkoku-sai has handwritten ‘Kaizen’ in red lacquer on the same side. On the front of the inner box lid, Dan-iri has inscribed “Black Flat Tea Bowl, Made by the 10th Generation Dan-iri, Seal,” and on the underside of the lid, Rokkoku-sai has inscribed “Made by Dan-iri, Black Flat Tea Bowl, Fushin.”
