This is a work by the Third-Generation Ōhi. On the inside of the lid of the inner box, the Fifth-Generation Ōhi has inscribed, “Made by my grandfather Kanbei, Red Tea Bowl, Seal of the Fifth-Generation Ōhi Chōzaemon,” clearly indicating that it is a work by his grandfather, the Third-Generation Ōhi. This is a tall, cylindrical tea bowl with a high foot, and the lower section is rounded. The body retains the potter’s marks, and the rough, unfinished traces of the carving are characteristic of Ohhi’s unique style. The foot is large with a wide base; the interior of the foot is shallowly carved into a swirl pattern, and the interior of the bowl features a deep tea pool.
