This tea bowl has an airy, free-spirited quality, with a cinched body that gives it the charm of a gourd.
The rim features gentle undulations, the body is rounded, the foot is small, and the footring is narrow. A tomoe-patterned hood is applied inside the foot. The interior is deep and features a small tea pool. The bowl is covered with a glossy, slightly coarse-grained black glaze overall, but a subdued vermilion glaze appears from the lower part of the body to the foot. The mark of Ōhi is stamped on the side of the foot, but it is not clearly visible due to the glaze. It is housed in a matching box with the inscription “Black Tea Bowl, Ōhi Chōzaemon VII” on the lid of the inner box.
