Ōhi VIII: tea bowl, known as “Kuronushi”, amber glaze

Height: 7.8 cm, Mouth Diameter: 10.6–11.5 cm, Foot Diameter: 4.1 cm
This bowl has a bowl-shaped form that rises gently from the waist to the rim, and the foot is relatively small. A flat, chamfered edge runs from the base of the foot to the waist. The entire surface is covered in a deep amber glaze, which has melted well to produce a lustrous finish with a hint of purple. There is a mark on the side of the foot, and on the underside of the inner box lid, Ennosai has inscribed “Ōhi, inscribed Kuro-shu, Kan’un (seal).” This piece is the work of Yatsushiro Ōhi Chōzaemon.
