13th century
Height 25.2 cm, mouth diameter 9.5 cm, body diameter 18.2 cm, bottom diameter 8.4 cm
This jar is similar in shape to a Tokoname san-suji jar, with a low shoulder, an angular border with the body, and a straight line leading to a small base, a form not often seen in the past. It is made of yellowish-white, highly refractory clay, and is molded in a ring shape with a four-tiered body. The body is shaped using me vertically. The shoulders are covered with a dark green natural glaze. The mouth rim is Atsumi style, but the clay is Echizen style, and it is difficult to determine which is which. It is thought to be an early Kamakura period piece.
