This is the oldest complete Echizen suribachi known today. The slightly deep body, which opens outward in a straight line, is a close duplicate of a Tokoname ware from the middle of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). The only difference between the two is that the edge of the mouth has a spout. The early examples also have a high stand, which is also similar.
There is a kiln mark 4 on the inner surface.
