This is a large dish with a rim cut into an eight-petaled flower ring. A large pine tree and basho (Japanese banana) leaves are clearly expressed in green and dark blue against a background of blue ocean waves. This is one of the most outstanding examples of this type of dish. The back of the dish is decorated with chrysanthemums on three sides and a fine peony arabesque design in black lines.
The reverse side is covered with yellow glaze. The design on the reverse side is typical of the Aote Kutani style.
