The three surrounding turtle shells are also decorated with paintings of birds on bamboo, hawks on ashes, peonies, and Chinese lions, skillfully blending geometric and painted patterns. The overglaze enamels are beautifully colored, and the color gradation is especially gorgeous in the Ko-Kutani style.
The back design is not overglaze enamels, but a peony arabesque design in underglaze blue. The side of the base is covered with a lightning pattern, and an illegible inscription in the center of the base is written in a double square.
