Umezawa Memorial Hall
This is a large cedar-shaped tea bowl with a slightly slender waist, an elliptical distortion at the mouth, and a deep prospect. The base is carved thinly and has the seal of Nisei, which is generally known as the Sowa seal, stamped on the inside of the base. The body is painted with a painting of an ancient tree with a bird in it, and the entire surface, except for the area around the base, is covered with white glaze. The cover of the inner box is covered with a paper with the inscription, “Kareki ahobadori e gosha ocha o grudge, 7th month of the 7th year of the 7th year of Bunka era (March, 7th year of the 7th year of the 7th lunar month), Receiving, Sekiya Chusho”.
These three bowls are representative examples of the distinctive iron-work teacups produced by Ninsei.
