Kenzan: set of dishes with different designs, enamelled ware

 This is a representative example of the Qianzan colored earthenware dish. The design of this piece, which shows ninja grass, chrysanthemums, bamboo grass, plum blossoms, and a glauber’s paw, was never seen before in Nisei and other Kyo-yaki wares, and it is thought to have gained popularity among the eccentric at the time.
 The base with high iron content is black, while the base with low iron content is white with a rat color. The reverse side is inscribed “Qianzan.
