As the front of the lid of the kyobako (a box with a lid) states, “Shirashi Rokuboshi Rokuboshi Tetsu Lianguntun Deaf Rice Maker,” the body of the vessel has vertical stripes on six sides to form a gourd shape, with a tall, large beam or handle and a transparent string on the lid of the ko-mori. The spout is also neatly formed, and the overall shape of the vessel is well organized. The body is underglazed with a dragon and wave design in fine lines, and the oval mark “Ki-me” is stamped in the center of the base, and the entire surface is glazed in white, except for the tatami mats on the base. Unlike most copying of kotsuji wares, which tend to have a rough and rugged appearance, this piece is rectilinear and elegant, and was probably made in imitation of a white porcelain pitcher fired at the Dehua kiln in China.
