Height 6.9cm, Diameter 12.5-12.9cm, Foot diameter 5.8cm
Several tea bowls of the same type were made based on a gold-painted tea bowl from the Kishu Tokugawa family, but each one has subtle variations in the design. As is usual, each of these tea bowls has a design of the Aoi crest, which is depicted in dark underglaze blue on the inside and outside of this bowl. The entire surface, leaving the foot ring, is covered with red pigment, and on top of this, gold lacquer is used to depict floral arabesque patterns on the inside, a shimenawa rope pattern around the outside below the rim, and a detailed design of a treasure-filled basket and a crane and turtle on the foot ring. The mark “Kawahinashiryū” is stamped on the side of the foot ring, and the top of the seal is covered with white lacquer. The lid of the box is inscribed “Gomon-tsuki Ocha-wan” (tea bowl with family crest), and on the underside of the lid Rokuro Sai has written “Kintei Hōjū (signature)”, and on the bottom of the box “In Zengorōzō”.
