Excavated from the site of Oaza Fukutani Kiln, Miyoshi City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan
9th century
Height 25.7cm, Body diameter 12.4cm, Bottom diameter 7.5cm
This is a typical piece from the Sanage kiln. The ash glaze has almost completely exfoliated, exposing the rough grayish-white surface of the vessel. The shoulder spout has a small, degenerated rim, and the spatula used to join it to the body is blunt and rounded. However, the tension of the base is still strong and has not deviated from that of metalware.
