Tamba Jar
Tamba Jar

Height 19.4 cm, mouth diameter 10.6 cm, body diameter 17.1 cm, bottom diameter 14.5 cm
This piece was probably made between the late Muromachi and Momoyama periods. The shape is somewhat similar to that of Shigaraki pots, but the stubby form is unique to Tamba ware. The mouth construction is particularly distinctive, and there is an “X” mark on the shoulder.
This is not a tea ceremony ware, but a so-called “seed pot,” but it is suitable for a water jar for a small tatami room. The body is covered with ash on one side from the bottom to the body, and the glaze has two streaks of sagging, the clay skin is red or black, and it has been fired to an ash-white color.
