Celadon Peach-Shaped Incense Container (Small)

Dimensions
Height: 4.5 cm
Mouth Diameter: 5.5–6.0 cm
Weight: 94 g

This incense container is said to be the original model for the one listed as the top-ranked piece in the ranking of shaped incense containers.
Its small size makes it perfectly hand-sized, like a jewel, ideal for a kōjū. The glaze is particularly beautifully fired, depicting a single leaf on a tray, with the leaf’s stem raised on the front.
The author has seen only two other peach-shaped kōjū, but both differ slightly in form from this one.
This is an exceptional piece among shaped incense containers. Furthermore, while larger pieces exist, they are of a different type from this one, originating from a different celadon kiln—that is, they are not shaped pieces.
This is a rare masterpiece that long held high renown in the Nagoya region.
