Unusually for Ichinyu, this piece features a pattern rendered in incised lines. The black glaze has been scraped away to reveal a woodcutter carrying a hoe-like tool on one side and a bundle of firewood on the other; white glaze has been applied over the incised lines. The bowl is thin-walled overall, with a generously flared lower section, a tapered body, and a rim that curves inward; the foot is quite small and modest. The interior features a large, spacious tea pool, and the black glaze applied to both the interior and exterior has a rough, unpolished texture, with traces of red glaze appearing in places. On the underside of the inner box lid, Rokkoku-sai has inscribed: “Ichi-nyu-zo Black Tea Bowl with Design, Signed Yamazato-sa (seal).”
