This is one of the few large jars from Turtle Island that is complete. Due to the low firing temperature, it has a yellowish-white color like earthenware, but it is freshly fired and not inherently so. The large jar at Turtle Island, with its slightly bulging body, large bore, and large bottom diameter, has a unique shape that is quite different from those found in other medieval ceramic sites. The bottom of the jar has a flat base with a curved rim, and the entire surface of the body is stamped with a lattice pattern. The wide outward-folded rim band at the mouth rim can be used as a standard to determine the date of production.
