There are two types of small Shigaraki jars: those with a twisted N-shaped mouth rim in the Tokoname style and those without such a rim. This jar falls into the latter category. The body is made in a four-tiered hagi-maki style with a rolled-up clay cord. The clay contains coarse particles of quartz feldspar, which did not melt because the firing temperature was not very high, causing numerous cracks on the surface of the vessel.
