This vase is highly regarded as the first masterpiece of Momoyama-era Tamba ware tea ceremony utensils.
It is a triangular vase with a triangular body often seen in Bizen ware. The mouth with a ball-shaped rim bends outward and the shoulders are tight, and the body is supported by a large, open base. Vertical spatulas are applied to the ridges on three sides, and four or five horizontal spatula are applied to each side. The ash that has fallen heavily on the body shows a vivid glaze color, and even the reddish clay skin on the back of the bowl is vividly covered with a dripping glaze. There are also marks on the three lower corners of the shoulder where holes have been filled in. This is a unique example of a Tamba ware hanabito with this type of workmanship.
