This bowl was once accompanied by a lid, but is now used as a thin tea bowl with the lid removed. A pine forest is painted with iron pigments and gosu on a white ground and covered with a transparent glaze, and this Hamamatsu pattern was a favorite of Kenzan. The glazed surface is slightly soft after firing, and has a slightly gritty taste. This also used to be a set of five pieces in a common box, but today each piece is separately kept in a sukiya’s collection.
