The lid of the inner box is marked “Nogami-yaki Tubular Water Jar with Lacquered Cover and Shimo-Mimi”.
This means that this is a piece of Nojin-yaki pottery, which was established by Goseiin following Shugakuin-yaki of Gosuiin. This is a cylindrical container in the style of Nisei, with a deep hem and rounded ears on the left and right sides. The lower half of the body is made of a mixture of white and red clay, with one half glazed with an amber glaze and the other with an ash glaze, but the coloring of the glaze is a little blurred. The hem is chamfered and the base is shallowly chipped in a go-zoko style.
