Brief Biography
Funakoshi Iyomori was a samurai of the Tokugawa Hatamoto clan, and served as a fukushin-bugyo (civil engineering official).
He studied tea under Oribe and Enshu. On November 8, 1665, at the request of Shogun Ietsuna, he and Katagiri Ishizhou held a tea ceremony at Kuroshoin.
After Enshu’s death, he and Ishizhou were regarded as the great masters of their time. He died on September 1, 1671, at the age of 74.

Chashaku (tea scoop)
A beautiful black shiny bamboo, with a thinly tapered joint and a half gourd shape with insect bites. The oar tip is strong.
It is not strong, but is high in the waist and delicate in the shape of an oribe.

Tube
The barrel is made on both sides, and has been sharpened near the bottom. There is an orbit hole at the bottom.

Postscript
All of the Kuroda family’s chashyaku have only wrapping paper and no box. Therefore, a new complementary box was made for each owner. Taizan Mitsui is commonly known as “Nagasaka Mitsui,” and is known for his good eye for detail.
