Compared to the red-patterned tea bowls, this is a semi-cylindrical tea bowl with a somewhat more subdued design.
The rim features undulating contours, the footring is narrow, and a concave recess has been carved into the footring. A fine incised pattern encircles the footring, and a deep tea pool has been formed in the interior. A hammer design is painted in white slip on one side of the body, and a sand glaze has been applied over the entire surface, though patches of white glaze have formed in places. The lid is mounted on a matching box with a left-opening design, and on the underside of the lid, Jushinsai has inscribed “Red Hammer Design (Seal).”
