This is the only Revival-period Meibutsu among the ancient Iga flower vases. It has been passed down in the Konoike family since ancient times and was known as the sole example of a “Tetsuki” style among Iga flower vases.
In particular, the presence of horizontal ridges is said to derive from the “nejikan” style of Seto water jars favored by Rikyu, leading to the belief that it was created during the mid-Tokugawa period when the Sen-style of tea ceremony became widespread among the common people.
The overall whitish glaze further reinforces this impression.
