15th century
Height 62.2 cm, mouth diameter 16.1 cm, body diameter 54.0 cm, bottom diameter 21.0 cm
The shape of this jar is unique to Echizen, with its small, rounded neck and rounded shoulders that form a ridged line that slopes straight down to the bottom. The natural glaze on the brownish-brown surface flows down to the lower half of the body, making this jar even more exuberant. The shape of the body, which is in the shape of an arithmetic bowl, and the folded rim of the mouth, suggest a 15th century date for the production of this jar. This is an imposing large jar.
