This pottery is known to have been made at the end of the Muromachi period (1336-1573), as the top of the upright neck has a flat, almost horizontal rim. It is made of fine-grained high-quality clay with a brush-formed surface. The surface is shaped with a brush pattern. The firing is solid, with a reddish-brown fire color, and a candy-colored natural glaze on the shoulder accentuates this jar. It is one of the best examples of kataguchi-jars. There is a kiln mark on the shoulder.
