14th century
Height 17.5 cm, mouth diameter 12.2 cm, body diameter 17.9 cm, bottom diameter 12.3 – 12.8 cm
The large, early katakuchi jars gradually gave way to smaller round jars after the middle of the Muromachi period (1336-1573). The body became smaller, and the neck of the jar became longer, opening into a trumpet shape. This shows the transitional form, so to speak. The clay is rolled up and thinly shaved. The firing is solid, with a slight fire color. The shoulder is sharply painted with a tree design, and next to it is engraved the shape of a kiln mark.
