This is a truly lovely small katakuchi jar with red fire color floating on a yellowish-white ground.
It is wheel-thrown and made of fine clay. The mouth rim has a bird’s beak shape. The body is decorated with a bowl with a carved design in the shape of a bird’s beak. The body is very well fired and shiny, with a yellowish green natural glaze on the shoulder and part of the breast, which blends with the color tone of the vessel’s skin and adds brightness.
