Lacquerware known as Sonsei are all crafted with exquisite painted patterns and colors. Sonsei is also said to be the artist’s name, though this is unclear.
This incense container, while relatively monochromatic in color, features exceptionally precise painted patterns. The composition, set against a dark background, depicts insects gathered beneath trees flourishing along ancient rocks, a truly fascinating technique.
