The lid is inscribed with “Rikyu-style Red Tea Bowl, Tea Bowl Maker Raku-yaki Kichizaemon,” and it comes in a typical Sōnyū-style box. As indicated by the “Rikyu-style” designation, its form is indeed modeled after a Chōjirō-yaki tea bowl, likely based on a bowl of the “Shunkan” style. The base of the low foot is flat, with deep carvings along the edge and a stepped profile on the sides. The carving inside the foot is shallow, and the tea pool at the bottom is also shallow. A white glaze was applied over a layer of yellow clay, but the glaze is thick, resulting in a red Raku finish with the distinctive, plump glaze texture characteristic of Sōnyū.
