Although the mouth rim is regrettably scratched off, the thick neck and the bulging body shape with a stout shoulder suggest that this is an early 12th-century Atsumi ware. The clay is grayish-black and rich in sand. The shoulder is decorated with three parallel sunken lines, which are alternated with parallel sunken lines, following the pattern of the current carved vases. The ash glaze was applied with a brush from the neck of the mouth to the shoulder, but it was not fully melted, giving it a yellowish-white color.
