In the 15th century, small Bizen vases with single-sided mouths began to appear. Early Bizen jars were relatively large in size, but this was the case in all ceramic centers. They were used as oil jars or liquid containers. The clay used was high in iron content, and the clay was rolled up to produce a brownish-brown color. The lower half of the body is decorated with fine spatula-painted inscriptions.
