Height 18.3cm, Bowl diameter 7.1cm, Bottom diameter 7.4cm
Suntory Museum of Art
This is a hanging flower vase of a completely simple form with a single-layered mouth. It is thought to be the ancestor of the Tabimakura vases of the Kuchiyose style from the Momoyama period onward. The entire vase is slightly thick, with a flat rim and flat bottom. It was probably made before the Tensho period, and is of the type called Shigaraki by tea masters. One side of the body has a dark green glaze with ashes, some of which are burnt. The other side is dark brown with white feldspar grains scattered on the clay. A red burnt spot appears in the center of the bottom. There are traces of sticking marks around the base, and a metal plate is attached to the top of the back. It once belonged to the Konoike family in Osaka.
