This large jar has a slightly wide mouth that rises up vertically, giving it a uniform appearance throughout.
The slightly wide mouth rises vertically, giving the jar a uniform appearance. The mouth is decorated with bead motifs, and the body is decorated with a rock with a leafy tree and white underside, but the motifs fit well within the shape of the vessel. The rounded base of the vessel still retains the fabric pattern. There are no large, three-dimensional works of this scale in the field of Nabeshima, but there are several examples in the field of underglaze blue and white, the most outstanding of which is this one. However, there must be other large works of this type that have remained buried in the world, because in general, underglaze blue and underglaze blue works are less highly regarded than underglaze blue and underglaze blue Nabeshima works.
This work was probably made between the Genroku and Kyoho periods.
