This type of ware appeared in the latter half of the 8th century when the characteristics of each region began to emerge, and this is most evident in the shape of the mouth neck and ears. In the Tokai region, this type appeared as ash-glazed pottery with a small mouth neck that changed little, while in other regions, the mouth neck became larger with time and took the form of a wide-mouthed bottle. This piece was excavated from the Kashizu kiln around the end of the 8th century. It is made of high-quality clay, ground extremely thin, and covered with a yellowish-white natural glaze on a grayish-black surface characteristic of Hokuriku.
