As explained in the section on “Kobara-onna,” the two belong to the same lineage.What should be noted about this tea bowl is the use of “henbome.” It is thought that the skillful use of ‘henbome’ was intended to express a sense of “wabi,” but such tea bowls are not found in other kilns, suggesting that the potters possessed advanced skills and a deep understanding of the world of “wabi tea.”
This tea bowl was cherished by Rikyu and is naturally considered one of the most representative examples of Seto black tea bowls. The shape of the bottom, with a single horizontal line, also closely resembles that of the “Kobara Onna” style.
