Kanagawa, Nagao Art Museum

I remember having the opportunity to see this tea caddy when it was brought from the Tayasu family to the Nagao Art Museum in 1929.
It is a typical example of a complete Tang-style shoulder-shaped tea caddy. The deep persimmon glaze is applied evenly, with a mottled texture, and the shape is well-proportioned. The body lines are clearly defined, and the base is raised, giving it a solid, substantial feel.
This tea caddy was presented by Tokugawa Yoshimune to Tanaka Munetake and has been treasured by the Tanaka family for generations, making it a masterpiece.
